Fuel Economy

Warm weather can actually improve your car's fuel economy. Because of the heat, your engine warms up faster, and many grades of summer gasoline have more energy. The downside to increased temperatures is the desire to keep the inside of your car cool. Blasting the air conditioning leads to decreased fuel economy. The combat this, there are a few tips to follow.

Before turning on the AC, open your windows to let the hot air from inside your car escape. If you're driving at low speeds, you can keep your windows down rather than running the AC. For highway speeds, it's actually more fuel-efficient to roll up the windows to decrease drag.

Flat Tire

Heat causes tire pressure to expand. To avoid a blowout on the road, check your car's tire pressure every week to make sure they are properly inflated. Before you drive, check if your tires are hot to the touch. Wait for them to cool down before hopping back in the car.

Battery Check and Replacement in San Luis Obispo

While the average car battery lasts three to five years, high temperatures can cause more wear and tear. Outside temperatures heat up the equipment under the hood, which leads to battery corrosion and evaporates the battery's liquid electrolyte. This weakens the battery's ability to produce power. If your battery is more than two years old and you live in a warm climate, get it checked at least once per year. We can offer a battery check and replacement if necessary.
